Bracketing

Sunday Finals

Choose your division and submit your team entry.  Once all entries are received and processed, we will place your team in an appropriate bracket in your division based on your team profile (see Bracketing Basics below).

  • Standard

  1. Adult
  2. High School (grades 9-10 and 11-12)
  3. Youth (grades 3-4, 5-6, and 7-8)
  • Elite

  • Special Olympics/Wheelchair/Unified

Standard

Most Mainstreet Madness participants will play in this division. Our goal is to bracket teams as fairly as possible, based on the player information submitted on the entry form.

Co-ed teams must have at least one player of the opposite sex on the court at all times. Any team containing both male and female players must sign up as a co-ed team.

Elite/Competitive

Designed to attract the most talented teams. Teams will be placed within each bracket without regard to the age, height, or experience level of individual players.  Separate brackets will be established for women's elite, men's 6 foot and under, and men's over 6 foot depending on team registration.  Each player in the men's 6 foot and under elite division must submit a photocopy of his driver's license with his team's entry.  Hillsboro Mainstreet Madness officials may measure a player's height in the men's 6 foot and under brackets.

Special Olympics

For teams that consist entirely of Special Olympics athletes of all ages and abilities.

Unified

For players with developmental disabilities who wish to play with their non-disabled friends or family.  Each team must consist of two players with developmental disabilities and two without.

Wheelchair

For wheelchair participants of all ages.

Bracketing Basics

Age - Hillsboro Mainstreet Madness will bracket school-aged teams based on player grades, not ages, in the 2007-2008 school year; however, age will be considered if player age is significantly different than the normal age range for the specified bracket.  Youth brackets will be established for grades 3-4, 5-6, and 7-8.  High School brackets will be grades 9-10 and 11-12.  For post high school-aged teams in the Standard division, the following ranges will be used as a basis to bracket teams: 18-25, 26-35, 36-54, and 55+. Without exception, adult teams will be placed into brackets based on the age of the youngest player. Youth and high school teams will be placed in brackets based on the highest grade (i.e. a team made up of three fourth-grade students and one fifth-grade student will compete in the 5th & 6th grade bracket).

Height - Player height, especially that of the tallest player on each team, is important in determining team brackets.  Unfortunately, many players choose to misrepresent their height on their entry forms.  These players need to understand that if their actual height differs from what they indicated on their entry forms, they may be immediately disqualified from the tournament.

Experience - Tell us about your experience as a player, as well as if you've ever played at such levels as high school varsity or college ball.

Competition Level - You will choose one of two competition levels that best describes your team's style of play, as follows:

Recreation - For those players whose primary goal is to have fun. You enjoy basketball, but realize it's just a game.

Competitive - for players of all ages whose competitive juices are flowing. You're a good sport, but your team has active talented players who really want to compete.
